善光寺周辺てなにもないじゃん、って聞くことがあります。
I often hear, "what can you do around Zenkoji Buddhist temple? Nothing, isn't there?"

ないといえばない、でもあるといえば．．．たくさんあると思います。
Well, you can say "no". But you can find just so many "places" if you would like to see them.

まず、いろんな種類のカフェがあること。
First, there are many kinds of cafe.

お気に入りのカフェがきっと見つかると思います。それに門前のカフェのほとんどは、古い建物を改装したものです。なので、露出した木のぬくもりやレトロ感は気持ちを落ち着けてくれたり、居心地のよさを生み出したりしているんだと感じます。
I'm sure you can find your favourite cafe. It's also true that most of them in the neighborhood of Zenkoji Buddhist temple have been renovated before turning them into a cafe space, so the atmosphere created by the bare wooden pillars and beams shall make you feel relaxed and comfortable.

あと、カフェのオーナーとの距離の近さだと思います。それぞれが色んな人生経験を積んでいて、一人一人違うストーリーを持っています。
Second, I think it's the distance between a cafe owner and customers. It's relatively close. Each of them has various experiences in their lives and has each different story.

それに、各々のカフェが周辺にある他のカフェのことを話してくれることが多いです。だから、休日にいくつかカフェをめぐり、オーナーたちとおしゃべりするのも素敵な過ごし方だと思います。
Best of all, you often hear the owner at the cafe talk about other cafes, so you might want to go to cafes one after another to have a chat with a few different cafe owners. That would be, I'm sure, a nice way to spend your day off ;-)
