炭火の熱
Charcoal heat is unique.
It takes time to warm up the air in the room.
But once this heated up charcoal reaches its maximum heat, it lasts for a while. Covered with ash, charcoal burns underneath it for more or less six hours.
In the next morning, new charcoal is added to the remaining heat.

英語で１斤
Catty, which we use when we measure sandwich bread, comes from kati in Malay language.
In Japan, we use "kin" roughly equivalent to it. Half a catty of the bread is used to make a honey toast here at this bar. It tastes good, but the idea is just ridiculous :-)

野良猫？
A stray cat?
I found it when I looked down to park my bike near Nagano station.
It looked in my eyes and tried to tell me something, though I couldn't figure out what it was.
I searched in my pockets if I had something to offer only to find nothing edible.
Is it still going to be there when I come back?

It was my first visit to Kawakami-Mura Village. The rain we had last night had stopped before we woke up this morning. We had a walk along this river after checking out. It was very relaxing ;-)

ホオズキ

どれも英語でホオズキ。
よくよく比べてみると、興味深いことが分かる。
まずは見た目。
lantern は提灯、確かに見えなくもない。
cherry はさくらんぼ、中身の実はぱっと見さくらんぼにみえる。
次に味。
tomato はトマト、味と食感はどことなくトマトに似ている。ものの名前が国ごとに違うのは、国ごとに人々の視点や感覚が違うのだと思う。

半日留学♪
Today, I taught a special lesson in Watauchi, Nagano City.
Even though I had been told there were going to be nine kids, it turned out to be twelve LOL.
We did yakiimo (grilled sweet potatos wrapped with foil in charcoal fire) from scratch with the kids.
They seemed to have enjoyed.
Handicraft we made this time was an original magnet topped with some clay.
Next time we'll make some snow man and igloo looking object made of snow ;-)

紅葉のいろ
紅葉というと 赤 というイメージがありますが、先週見た紅葉は主に黄色とオレンジでした。
In Japan, autumn leaves are mainly thought to be red. Ones I saw last weekend were yellow and orange.
息を呑むような景色を満喫することができました♪
It was a breathtaking view after all ;-)

よく米子大瀑布へ行ったというと、『ばくふ』って何かと聞かれます。
わたしも比較的最近意味を知ったひとたちに入りますが、これ『滝』という意味だそうです。

小松菜スパ
I had dinner at Komatsuya in Nishinomon in the neighborhood of Zenkoji Buddhist temple.
Komatsuna spinach IS the key of this pasta.
Sauce made of its puree matches perfectly with pasta.
First, I thought this spiciness came from an additional ingredient.
But the chef told me that it comes from its own and it has its unique spiciness when it comes around this season.

炭火で焼芋
Yakiimo is a term we refer to a grilled sweet potato in Japan.
We first wrap it with aluminum foil and throw it into charcoal fire, and wait for a while.
I use a wet newspaper to wrap it before I do using foil.
Someone told me this method.
If you are lucky, you will have chance to taste it ;-)

Just look at this bright night sky!
この明るい夜空！
No wonder it's so cold this morning.
どうりで今朝寒いわけだ。
It rained late at night as well only to cool down the temperature further.
夕べの遅い時間に降っていた雨がさらに温度を下げたのか。
Winter is about to land.
もうすぐ冬到来ですね。
