木島平村にある有名なレストラン、「土曜日はイタリアン」に初めて来ました☆
I came to a famous restaurant "Doyobi wa Italian" for the first time ;-)

まず外の雪に圧倒されましたが…（笑）
Actually I was astonished by this vast amount of snow in the first place though... LOL

ニューヨークのとある学校に面している道路で、道路標識のSCHOOLという綴りがSHCOOLになっていたそうです。
I read a news article saying that there was a misspelling of "school" on the road by the school in New York.

さすがに学校の横ということなので、スペルミスの部分が削り取られました。
Finally the part has been ripped off regarding or not regarding the fact that it was just beside the school.

２年間も放置してあったようなので、それほど深刻なことではなかったのでしょうか。
So, it was not that serious matter presumably because it had been left that way for two years..., was it?

 

ジャイアンについて。
It's about Gian.



彼は殴る相手がたくさんいる。
He has many friends to hit.

まだ人の親にもなっていない自分が言うのもあれなんですが、「危ないから○△◆※」って言葉、危ないな〜って思います。
I might not deserve saying this since I've never been a parent though, I feel the word "You can't do ---- because it's dangerous!" is dangerous.

危険性に触れ、それが危険だと学習するのが人間の自然な生き方だと思っています。
I think it's natural to learn a danger by actually seeing, feeling or touching it.

それが危険だから常に遠ざけるというのは、一見子どもにとっては安全であるかのように見えます。
Keeping children away from something dangerous because it is so looks like a safe thing.

子どもは、するなと言ったことをしたがります。
They do what they are told not to.

子どもを火から遠ざければ、火を何としてでも触りたがります。
If we keep them away from fire, they will want to touch it.

子どもを刃から遠ざければ、刃を何としてでも触りたがります。
If we keep them away from blade, they will want to touch it.

やけどをして、子どもは火を畏れる。
They awe fire by burning a part of their body.

指を切って、子どもは刃を畏れる。
They awe blades by cutting their finger.
 

炭の暖かさに癒されながら、手作りの料理を味わう。
The warmth of charcoal heals me, and at the same time food I prepared goes into my mouth.

医食同源とはよくいったものだ。
I'm always impressed by this saying "medicine and diet come from the same source".

炭は手間がかかる。
Charcoal isn't easy to deal with.

せかせかとしたライフスタイルには合わない。
It doesn't match a hectic lifestyle.

はっきりいって不便だ。
It's not convenient to be honest.

でも不便だから、段取りが重要になる。
It's such an inconvenient thing that trains me how to handle more efficiently.

便利なものは、人間を段取りから遠ざける。
Convenient things keep human beings from thinking a process to get things done.

不便が便利を生み出すのか．．．
Does inconvenience create convenience ...?

コウモリほど私たちの日常に大きくかかわっている動物はいないのだなと感じています。
Not an animal as important as bats is closely related to our daily lives.

ある記事を読んで素直にそんな気持ちになりました。
It's my honest feeling after reading this article.

アメリカの北東部でコウモリが年々激減しているというリポートがありました。
It's been reported that bats in the northeastern U.S. have been decreasing rapidly.

原因はカビだそうです。
It's due to fungus.

現在急ピッチで治療薬を開発中とのことですが、どうなるんでしょうかね。
It seems that scientists are trying to find a remedy though, I wonder how long it will take.

この記事でもっとも興味を惹かれたのは、コウモリが人知れず私たちの日常生活に与えている影響についてです。
What fascinated me the most in the article is that no one has ever noticed what they have been affecting to our daily lives.

繁殖期になると、メスのコウモリは一晩に自分の体重ほどの量の虫を食べるそうです。
Once the reproduction age of female bats arrives, they eat as much insects as their bodies can take literally every night.

多くの人々が嫌いな虫をコウモリは日々せっせと食べてくれている。そういうことなんです。
They have been eating our disliking bugs evely single day, which is the point I wanted to address.

もしコウモリがいなくなってしまったら、虫は今後増える一方。
If they vanish from the earth, there'll be deadly amount of insects around us more increasingly.

伝染病や作物にも悪影響を及ぼすのは必死です。
That might lead to the spread of infective disease and affect agriculture yields.

コウモリさん、がんばれ！

日本語では秒針や分針、時針のことをまとめて　時計の針　と呼んでいます。
In Japanese, we call the hour, minute and second hand "the needles of a clock".

日本人が最初から針と形容していたということは、時計が日本に入ってきたときにはすでに小型化が進んでいたということになるんでしょうか？
We started to call it the needles in the first place. That means clocks were already small when they came to Japan, doesn't it?

逆に英語では時計の針のことを　手　と呼んでいます。
On the other hand, they call those hands "the hands".

日本人が針と呼び、英語圏の人達が手と呼ぶものはなんでしょう？というクイズができますね（笑）
I can make a quiz which goes like "What are objects that the Japanese call them needles and the peple in English spoken countries call them hands?". LOL

自己紹介第２弾です♩

A: Do you have any brothers or sisters ?　ご兄弟はいらっしゃいますか？
B: Yes, I do. / No, I don't.　　はい、おります。／いいえ、おりません。
B: （=>「はい」の場合。）
I have <> brother(s).　私には （人数） 人兄弟がいます。
I have <> sister(s).　私には（人数）人姉妹がいます。
B: （=>「いいえ」の場合。）
I have no brother or sister. 私には兄弟はおりません。
I don't have any brother or sister. 同上

ただし、日本では一般的に兄弟や姉妹を具体的に言いますので、上記の答え方は少々違和感があるかもしれませんね。

兄弟と姉妹を具体的に説明すると、
兄：big brother か older brother
弟：little brother か younger brother
姉：big sister か older sister
妹：little sister か younger sister
となります。１人以上の場合は、brother や sister のあとに s をつけて複数形の単語にします。
