ローマ神話でヤヌス神といえば、２つの顔を持つ神様です。
Janus is the roman god with two faces.

じつはこの世には２つの顔をもつ猫ちゃんがいるんですね。フランクとルーイです。
There is a two-faced cat called "Janus". It has a name, of course, "Frank and Louie".



今年で１２歳ということで、ギネスブックでも長生き記録更新中だそうです♩
Now it's 12 years old while it's been renewing the record of Guinness World Records ;-)

ドアのないトイレの個室で用をたしているような心境を味わったことはありますか？
ダイスはあります。

Have you ever felt you are doing your business in the stall in the bathroom with no DOOR? I have.

 

昼食を作るのは手間がかかる。
It's a bit of work to cook my lunch.

その手間が楽しい。
But I cherish this moment. It's rather enjoyable.

午後から夜にかけてゴールデンタイムを迎えるダイスのお仕事。
I usually start working in the afternoon. From the afternoon to the night, my golden time at work begins.

午前中はひたすら自身のスキルアップと自学自習の時間。
Meanwhile, I use the morning for improving all sorts of my skills and acquiring more knowledge both in Japanese and English.

１０月から担当する公共職業訓練の観光英語およびMicrosoft Powerpointの授業に、月・金・土のワンコインイングリッシュCafeプロジェクトで忙しくなりそうだ。
I'll be teaching an English class on tourism and a presentation class using Microsoft Powerpoint as a part of the job training provided by the government, and running One-coin English Cafe Project on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Busy is a good word for me from now on ;-)

だめだ、笑いをこらえすぎて腹筋がイタイ．．．

さぁ、みなさんご一緒に。

今や日本語で　データ　や　メディア　という言葉はごくごく一般的に使われています。
We use loan words like "data" and "media" quite often in Japan nowadays.

これらの言葉は英語に直すとそれぞれ　"datum" と "medium" になります。
However, they are originally "datum" and "medium" in English.

え？なんか思っていたのと違う？
Huh? It's different from what you've thought of??

そう、現在日本語として使われている　「 data 資料」　や　「 media 媒体」　という言葉は、元の英単語の複数形なんです。
Yep. These words we use as Japanese are their plural forms as a matter of fact.

とえらそうに書いておいて、実は今日はじめて知りました（笑）
Having said that this way, I figured it out TODAY LOL

 

一杯のお茶は、実に心を落ち着けてくれる。
A cup of tea makes me feel calm and tranquil...

 

一年中煮炊きに火鉢を使っているダイスですが、これからの季節はますます火鉢が恋しくなるんだろうな。
Basically, I use my hibachi or Japanese style portable charcoal grill for cooking all year round. I guess I'll be depending on it further more than just cooking for coming season...

 

まだまだダイス菜園のゴーヤは楽しめそうです♪
I think I can still enjoy the goya or the bitter gourd at my vegetable garden in the back of my office building ;-)

太陽の光が弱まって、少し涼しくなってきたせいか、ダイス菜園の植物たちはとても元気です♪
Plants and vegetables in my vegetable garden are sound and healthy ;-)

先日漬けたゴーヤ漬け ついに解禁！
A pickled goya or bitter gourd is ready now ;-)

めちゃくちゃ美味い．．．
I tastes awesome...

イカン、つまみ食いしている場合じゃない。
Oops! I shouldn't be actually eating it now.

はやくお茶をいれなきゃ（笑）

ダイス菜園を作ったことで、新たな生態系が出来上がっていることに驚く。
I'm overwhelmed with the fact that I created a new ecological system...

 

東北大震災で津波に流された何十億円もの現金のほとんどが持ち主に返された。
Vast amount of money washed away by the devastating Tsunami after Northeastern Japan Great Earthquake has almost returned to the owners. The amount accounted up to billions of yens.

それから分かることは、日本人を特徴づけているのは、やはり他の国に類を見ない精神性の高さだと思う。
This story tells us what characterizes the Japanese is our highest moralities and ethics among all countries.

かつて幼少の頃からその精神性を高める教育を散々うけて来た日本人。
We've been educated to enhance them over and over again since we were born.

他の国に真似できない一番の強み、それはその精神性を土台にした団結力と組織力だと思う。無論、良きにつけ悪しきにつけだ。
Good or bad, our strongest advantage is solidarity and organizational decision-making power based on the moral and ethical beings, which is something other countries can never copy.

高い精神性を持つ個の集団が、一丸となって仕事を行う。この過程が日本の技術力とこれまでの実績を積み重ねてきたんだと思う。
Ones with high moralities and ethics work hard together. The process of which has kept our top-notch technology and Japan's brand power special.

一方で、日本に９０年代から徐々に蔓延してきたウィルスが、欧米が強制的に持ち込んだ結果のみを追求するビジネススタイルのそれだ。
On the other hand, a virus brought into Japan from the western countries increasingly became pervasive since 90's. It's a completely different business style that is only a pursuit of results.

株主という愚の集団に資本と引き換えに会社の魂を売った企業が利益をどんどん上げる結果となった。
Since then, companies which sold their souls in exchange of capital to brainless people called "stockholders" have made a lot of money.

人件費を削減すれば利益が上がったように見えるのは当たり前だ。でも株主は気付かない。
They don't even notice about the obvious fact that profit increases if the companies fire their employees in the back of the stage.

魂の無くなった企業は、１年で結果をだせなかった現場のノウハウと知恵、リーダーシップを次々と捨て、数字という嘘で株主をだまし続けてきた。
Those soulless companies have kept lying them by letting go of people with on-the-job know-how, knowledge, and leadership simply because they didn't bring results within one fiscal year.

日本の団結力と組織力は、日本人の精神性、すなわち心を礎としてきたことを忘れてはならない。
We shouldn't forget that our solidarity and organizational decision-making power are based on our heart and soul.

心が生み出す仕事は、常に１年で結果を出すとは限らない。現場のたたき上げでない経営者は、そこに気付かず泥沼にはまっていく。
A product created in the result of using our heart and soul can't always be delivered within one year. Most of CEOs with no on-the-job experience in the field dive into mud unconsciously.

礎を失った日本は、これからどこへ向かうんだろう．．．
Japan without foundation is going to ... where?

Greece is in bad shape again.

対ユーロでも円高傾向だ。
Yen is getting stronger and stronger against Euro.

ギリシャが転べばイタリアやスペインも危ないようだ。
It's said Greece's fall would be followed by Italy and Spain, too.

比較的裕福なユーロ圏内の国々にも経済的なダメージは計り知れない。
Relatively wealthier nations in the Euro zone will definitely be damaged economically.

一方で、われわれ日本人にとってはヨーロッパへ旅行するには格好の時期ともいえる。
Meanwhile, the Japanese are enjoying this very moment especially for those who are desparate to travel to Europe.

複雑な心境だ。
It's a sophisticated feeling on my mind.

 

最初に挙げるこれらの単語は一つのものを指しているのでしょうか、それとも一つ以上のものを指しているのでしょうか？
Do you know these words are singular or plural?

これらは実は後者、つまり単語の複数形を表しています。ではこれらの単語の単数形はというと、以下のようになります。
It's the latter one. It's, so to speak, a plural word. How about the singular forms of these words, then? It's as follows.

mouse
louse
die

ちょっと最後のはちょっと縁起が悪そうですが、それぞれ「ねずみ」「しらみ」「サイコロ」を表す単語の単数形です。
Well, the last one sounds a bit scary though, meanings are as they are. They are plural.

単語を複数形にするには、s や es を単語の後ろにつければいいというのが基本ですが、このように不規則なものも多くあります♩
You were basically taught that you had to put "s" or "es" in the end of each word to make it plural. There are many different examples to make singular words into plural ;-)

 

硫黄の臭いってすぐに想像できますよね？
I guess it's not that difficult to imagine the odor of sulfur or sulphur.

いわゆる、卵の腐った臭いです。
That is to say, the rotten smell of eggs it is.

どうやら硫黄自体にもともと臭いはないそうです。
However, they say it originally has no scent.

あの臭いは、硫黄と水（もしくは湿気）が混ざって硫化水素が発生した時に出る臭いだそうです。
That odor is produced by hydrogen sulfide due to the chemical reaction between sulfur and water (or humidity in the air) .
