この犬はなぜ笹の葉を食べるのか、というテーマでブログ記事を投稿しようと思ったんですが、やめます。
I was going to post an article on "Why does this dog eat dwarf bamboo leaves?" though, I'll pass that on this time.
今回は２つのことにふれます。
I'll write about two things.
１つ目は、財布を落としてそれが数時間後に無事手元に戻ってきたこと。
First, I lost my wallet somewhere and got it returned in my hand as it was a few hours later.
まず、匿名で財布を拾って届けて下さった親切な方に、心から感謝したいと思います。
Best of all, I'm super grateful and would like to express my feeling of great appreciation to the someone who picked it up and took it to the police station. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
一体どこで落としたのか皆目見当もつかない。
Honestly, I have no idea where I dropped it.
財布がないことに気づき慌てていたら、交番から財布が届いた旨を父が電話で知らせてくれた。
My father called me to let me know my wallet has arrived and been kept at the police station when I was slightly in panic over my missing wallet.
若松町の交番では非常に親切な対応をしていただき、無事に財布は手元に戻った。
The officers at Wakamatsu-cho Police Station were very kind. I'm very happy to see my wallet safe and staying back in my pocket as it was.
２つ目は、勇気を出して尋ねてみたことが意外な展開に発展しそうなこと。
Second one is that courage might have affected my future activities in unanticipated way.
財布を受け取った後、勇気を振り絞っておまわりさんにあることを尋ねてみた。
After I received my wallet back, I asked a question to one of the officers even though I really needed courage to let it out of my mouth.
自分が持っている英語のスキルを警察で活かす方法はないか、と。
I asked if my skills of English are useful in anyways at the Police.
同時通訳のスキルはある程度あるし、翻訳の経験も豊富だと伝えた。
I told him that I have a decent skill of simultaneous interpreting and much experience of translation.
すると、そのおまわりさんは警察には「外部通訳人」なる制度があることを教えてくれて、早速登録の申請には何が必要か調べて連絡してくれる旨を約束してくれた。
Then he told me about "Subcontracting interpreter" for the Police investigation and also promised me to let me know how to apply for the registration as soon as possible.
ひょっとしたらダイスの英語力は、英語や英会話を教えるだけでなく、もっと社会の役に立つのではないかと感じた瞬間でした。
It was the moment that I wondered, maybe, my English skills are not only for teaching English but also helping somebody in need in the society.
